Good morning,
Interesting book review in LA Times this past Sunday, "In Search of My Homeland" by Er Tai Gao. In particular, this author, being an art/philosophy student, and hence a political prisoner during Mao's China was assigned to a labor camp to be "re-educated through labor". Interestingly, a job he was able to take on, involved sweeping the sand from the Mogao Caves, where there were ancient murals. The politics around the research and institute though, evidently led to the caves decay. (I want to learn more about the caves too)
How beautiful that someone so artistically inclined continued to strive for sharing and exposing the beauty around him. Not unlike many of the images we saw during our session discussing the cultural revolution.
This looks like a really good read. I'll order it and let you know, if interested.
