GuestThis play just reiterates what we've been learning and realize through the China Institute. It also shows how much China and the U.S are committing to a global relationship. The play sounds very interesting and I would definitely look for its debut in the west.

KeymasterI just returned from New York after a brief, five day getaway. While there, I had the opportunity to see the new Broadway production, Chinglish. For anyone planning a trip to New York any time soon, this play is definitely worth checking out. In short, the story (ostensibly) revolves an American businessman trying to close a deal in China and the obstacles (both personal and professional) he and his Chinese counterparts face during the process. Though the play revolves around the pains of communicating/translating, a closer look reveals (quite humorously) the differences that exist between the cultures (Western and Chinese). The story deals with cronyism, corruption, love, cultural cues and customs, and the future of China as world leader all through the eyes of the two main protagonists (the American businessman and the Chinese politician). I am not sure if this will be a touring production (given the play's relatively small size, I doubt it will), but if it ever lands out West, it's a smart and witty play that should not be missed.

GuestI truly hope this play comes out to LosAngeles. This is something I would like to see. A comment on the difficulties in conducting business in China, check out a small article in the LA Times last week. Several Indian businessmen are in a lot of trouble ..... they wound up in Chinese legal system.....I guess any one has difficulty with business deals when dealing with cultures and customs outside of the ones you are familiar with.
Also, I am going to share the play with a friend of mine. She was born in China but has lived many years in this country and is about to retire. Her retirement goal is to start a business advising business travelers going to China. Looks like this is something that is sorely needed.
