I thought the point was interesting that Confucius did want to change society in that he wanted that they return to the old ways of those who came before them.

So, how do we want to do this? Do we want to become experts on a particular question or just let it be a free for all?

I think that, at the very least, we need to decide on fundamental positions:
    1. Are we going to take the position that people are inherently good or bad?
    2. Do we look to the "old ways" as a model that must be reinterpreted for contemporary times, or do we want a literal recreation of historical times.

We also need to be familiar with the competing schools of thought.

    Any ideas?

I like Confucius' 5 types of good behavior: respectfulness, tolerance, sensitivity, diligence, and kindness. I specially like his teaching of being frugal fiinancially, that means do not over spend that way we will not need to pay interest for our credit card. But his teaching of kids may feel discourage but not resentful, it is hard for me to do that. I felt resentful when I had argument with my parents.
