KeymasterI am in the Daoism group and am looking for advice for this weekend's discussion.
We should begin formulating our opinion on Daoist thought.
We need to kep it simple as would the Daoist phylosophers. We need to be natural in our approach and remember that the truth lies in knowing that the world has been around long before us and we hae to do our part to preserve that harmony and by not sturing up the muck, we can then know the whole world.

GuestHi Michael - I am in the Daoist group too. I am beginning to get a little picture of Daoism from the reading, but I have no experience with "debate" (except with my husband!!)
So far, I have concluded that Daoists would not be in favor of fostering development since that would not be a return to nature or simplicity. Agree?
I think perhaps they would think that following Daoism would actually foster stability and balance because things would return to a "natural" order. What do you think?
As for equality - well I am not sure. Would a Daoist argue that a peaceful, harmonious environment would be brought about because all people are basically or naturally good????

GuestHi again -- After further consideration I am pretty sure that Daoism considers all people to be sons of the Great Dao so they are born equal, meaning they have the same opportunity. Supreme Peace is what they strive for and it includes "equality".

GuestAs a Daoist, would we argue at all?

GuestI too was in the Daoist group and enjoyed being a 60's hippie (esp. since I wasn't born until 1971)! I found an interesting site giving lots of info about the philosophy!

GuestAh hah Cindy,
1971 is the year of the Pig...so this year is your year! Cool, huh!
But Daoist philosophers wouldn't care one way or the other right?
Nevertheless, happy year of the Pig! It was cool to see some of the
Pig displays in Xi'an at night with those of us who watched, took photos
and were brave enough to join the local parade. (Becky, Barb, Carol and Co.)
Here is a good web site, if you decide to put the Daoism aside for the
Chinese Zodiac.http://members.shaw.ca/harrisonhotsprings/zodiac/zodiac.html

GuestSusan, we sure did have a good time joining in with the locals in that evening didn’t
we? I have included some of the pictures of the giant pigs in the picture CD that I am giving to Barbara this Monday. See you all there.April 28, 2007 at 3:10 pm #35657Anonymous
Guest16. The group process for this class is a good one. I had fun with it both years. Perhaps
more the first time than the second as it seemed a little more active. At any rate, I believe that this is a great way to engage our students. -
