For one of the classes that I missed I attended a do Jo synthesis class that is put on as a requirement for CAS (community action service hours) for the IB program. It was very interesting to see the correlation of mental technique and philosophy between the actions that the teacher of the class required of the body. Casey-the teacher educated me on the history of a do Jo and how it originated in Japan and is a formal meeting place to practice marital arts. The literal translation of do Jo is the "place of the way" which reminded me of our honest philosophy debate in which I was a daoist it during the debate. The physical excerise that we completed during the do jo synthesis class helped me to further make the connection that excerise and martial arts stretching and breathing techniques could be used during mini breaks during a long block schedule or class. You could pair the stretching techniques with mini historical lessons on east Asian philosophies.
