Earthquake

I wonder what the fallout will be for China and the Chinese. It seems like not too long ago China was hit with a major quake.

The human toll is unbearable. Especially difficult to read about are the school chidldren.

Over 8,500 people have died in Monday's earthquake in Wenchuan county, Sichuan, in central China. It is believed over 10,000 are injured. The earthquake (dizhen) measured 7.8 to 7.9 magnitude. In nearby Beichuan county there were over 3,000 deaths reported.
In 1976 the earthquake in Tangshan killed over 255,000 people... the worst natural disaster in 4 centuries.
In the past the Chinese people have historically associated great natural disasters with momentous politcal changes, which is why the central government was so worried about the storms about the time of the Chinese new year.
In 1976 Mao died, Chou died, and the Gang of Four was arrested.
Let us hope China will not resist relief efforts like the government China supports in Burma.
I think our seminar could organize a relief effort. What do you think?

WHEN THEY SHOWED THE RESCUE EFFORTS AT THE SCHOOL WHERE 900 STUDENTS DIED...THERE WERE LITTLE HANDS AND FEET STICKING OUT OF GROUND !!! EVERYTIME I THINK OF THAT IMAGE I BEGIN TO CRY. THESE ARE FAMILIES WHO WERE/ARE POOR . THEY COULD NOT BUY DISPENSATIONS TO HAVE 2 OR MORE CHILDREN LIKE THE CHINESE PARTY OFFICALS AND MEMBERS OF THE UPPER CLASS...THEY HAVE LOST EVERYTHING!!!

COLLEAGUES...LET'S PLAN AND DO SOMETHING!!!
