Make-up homework assignment for missed session on April 5
On Saturday May 7, I attended “Remnant Oneness Sports Day” sponsored by the Evangelical Ministry of Southern California Darak Church. Its organizers were from Darak Church: a Korean church founded in South Korea under Presbyterian beliefs. The organizers’ goal for “Oneness Sports Day” was the same goal for Darak Churches in Korea and California: evangelization of 160 ethnic groups throughout the world. A few Darak Churches throughout Southern California attended the event. It was held at Whittier Narrows Recreation Area, and the event attempted its evangelization goals by gathering pastors, staff members, church members, families, and guests together for a time of fellowship. The “Oneness” event began with a sermon given in Korean by one of the pastors. Typical Darak services are given in Korean(sermon, worship, etc.) with English translations (via headphones for sermons/projector screens for worship songs). Typical Darak sermons involve a calling for attendees to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. The sermon was followed by sporting events, barbecue, and fellowship among “Oneness” attendees. The day’s highlight was the Korean food. A large bowl of Korean lettuce salad complimented larger helpings of rice and Korean barbecue. Event attendees experienced quality bonding from the cooking and consumption of Korean style pork belly slices grilled over a Weber charcoal grill. Overall, the issue of people lacking the gospel in the world/region was effectively addressed by the “Oneness” event through sermon message, prayers, and fellowship. Darak churches from Korea have a belief that America and South Korea will have a critical role in evangelizing the gospel to the world. More information on Darak churches can be found on darak.net
