I had no idea that ancient asian cultures were so into human sacrafices. I thought the Aztecs had the corner on that market!

As I was going through some of the readings in the "Early East Asian" section, I ran across the ASIAPAC Comic Series; 24 Stories of Filial Devotion. The theme of all of them was sacrificing themselves for their mothers. Was this the normal practice during this time -- to hold their mother in such high regard? This seems to be kind of a barbaric society, yet mothers were treated with honor. Is this the case?

I found the 24 Stories of Filial Devotion interesting as well. I related it to a practice which was present in my own culture which was ancestor worship. Filial Devotion might have been a way for children to protect their mothers since women did not own land in the past they were very vunerable. Anyway, I think it would be nice if children were still as devoted to their mothers as they were then. Either way, the illustrations and the stories in the 24 Filio Devotions are very well-done and still charming even in this day and age.
