    You wrote a beautiful description of the gardens!! You hit on many of the aspects that I found interesting... but I didn't write such a lovely recap!!

    Does Korea have gardens like the Japanese and Chinese?

    There is nothing better than seeing things first hand. It would have been really fun to go see the ethnic/cultural spots such as China Town in order to see the community of people and how they interact, thus successfully creating the essence of a "country" within a city.

    Every year the AVID teacher and I raise funds to take students to UCSD or SDSU and a local family attraction like San Diego Zoo or Balboa Park to visit the museums. I thought it would be absolutely wonderful if we were to take our top academic and community service AVID students to the Huntington Library. Our biggest expense is our transportation costs. So, we would have to narrow the visitation group. We could collaborate with our History teachers to create a lesson, so students could apply what they learned in class to the gardens or other areas in this place. I know our tour guide stressed they were renovating one building to have an exhibit from the point of view of a person who lived the Civil War.

    Hi all,

    Our field trip is on Thursday, 7/26. We will visit Huntington Library in the morning, and LACMA in the afternoon.

    Huntington Library: We will have a docent-led tour of the newly-renovated Japanese Garden. And of course, we will visit the Chinese garden as well.

    LACMA: We will have a one-hour docent-led tour of the Korean art collection, then you can walk around the museum by yourself.

    • Please check out of the hotel before we leave for the field trip. Leave your belongings in the hotel. You will check in again on Monday, 7/30.
    • We will meet at 9am in front of Radisson Hotel and leave for Huntington Library at 9:15am. Please do not be late!
    • We will not provide breakfast. Please make sure you have a good breakfast, since we will have plenty of walking.
    • We will not have lunch as a group. Instead, we will reimburse each of you $10 for lunch.
    • We will leave LACMA at 3:30pm and arrive at Radisson at around 4:30pm.

    Comfy shoes and clothes!
