It's crazy how countries have focused so much on their economic growth rather then the survival of the human race. Thanks for sharing the article.
Good timing as world leaders are meeting in Paris to discuss steps to fight/reduce climate change. The report suggests a shift in attitude from prioritizing commerce and industrialization above all else to sustainability, especially if sustainability means less dependence on foreign food markets. Jose are you saying that you read the actual 900 page report?
I remember seeing a documentary that pollution was so bad in China that there are not enough bees to pollenate crops so people have to pollenate crops BY HAND! That is bad!
Wow! Pollinate plants by hand!! That's insane!!! What was the name of that documentary? My students have come in with crazy reports and articles about polluted rivers where people still swim, fish and drink the water because they have no other choice and towns/villages that are known as cancer towns because the pollutants in the town have given many people cancer. It's amazing to me the amount of pollution in that country, and even ours as well!
The air pollution problem in China is out of control. I recently read an article on Newsweek about how China has been calling their air pollution problem, "airpocalypse." Apparently the term was coined when the new Chinese president showed up in Beijing to meet with the Communist Party in 2013 for four days and each day he was there the day was darkened by a thick layer of pollution. Beijing issued a warning asking citizens to stay indoors if possible. I was amazed to see some of the images where Chinese citizens exercised in the morning wearing face masks to protect themselves from the pollution. This just seems to me out of control. I'm eager to see what China will do to help curb this problem. I can't imagine how it would be like to live like this!

Something that always surprises and shocks me about China, is the amount of pollution that is prevalent in that country. When doing current events, my AP Human Geography & U.S. History students always comment about the pollution levels, cancer towns, air pollution, etc. and how shocked they are. Below is a link to an interesting article I read earlier about China's recent report about the impact that pollution has had on the climate, agriculture, rain, water, etc. It's very revealing, especially if you read the actual report! 😮
