GuestHey Sarah,
I have been doing my homework and I have recruited a few people to come along to our Asian cuisine rendezvous.I also believe that these people would be part of the very next ‘East Asia’ group
I cannot wait to eat some more Korean (if that is what the majority vote for)
map of Seoul with some restaurants marked. I wish to go there and eat at one of those and come back with pictures to add to this forum.

GuestThe Thursday February 11th Food section of the LA Times: “Bundles of Joy” provides some historical references about the dumplings.
With the year of the tigers starting this Sunday, the article explains how in China the food takes a very important part of the celebration, with dumplings being one of the most important components of the holiday meal.
The article mentions that dumplings are such an ancient part of the Chinese cuisine, that one can see fossilized dumplings at the Turpan museum of Xinjiang in an ancient tomb.
For those who are into cooking, the article has several recipes such as Lao Yi’s boiled beef and leek dumpling filling, shrimp dumpling filling, Beijing-style pork and cabbage dumpling filling

GuestFood is the one thing that really bonds people together. We all share an interest in East Asia, and hopefully we can all share some East Asian food. Count me in on our family meal.

GuestOf all the East Asian foods, Korean is one I do not mind going to...They use lots of garlic and spices, along with an assortment of vegetable in their foods. If you look at the Korean women, they have beautiful complexion because of their healthy diet. Unlike Japanese cookin, they do not use as much sugar. Although I can't tolerate spicy foods, I can't resist eating Kimchee, following with lots of water...For many the smell of Kimchee is offensive, but once you get pass that, you will just love it! Another favorite Korean dish is Bim Bim Bap, which is a bowl of hot rice, an assortment of vegetables, season beef(as I am a vegetarian, I opt out for more veggies) and fern shoot, with an option of a fried egg on top. The traditional way to Bim Bim Bap is to mix it all up, with a wonderful hot sauce...but since i like things neat, I just eat it in sections. It was interesting at one Korean Restaurant the waitress thought I did not know how to eat it and insisted on mixing up my bowl...Before the main dish is served it is customary for the waitress to serve a variation of condiments ( Korean appetizers), which is very delicious and a meal in itself...Torrance has a variety of Korean restraunts to self from as well, and from the ones I went to, the food was delicious!Bon apetit!

GuestIf downtown LA K town is too far for some...Let me know who would be interested in going to a Korean Restraunt in Torrance or Santa Ana area (has some great Korean grocery stores!)
There is also Thai and Vietnamese Restraunts in Torrance... Of course Japanese there and in Gardena....
