GuestI have a student who has volunteered to make cranes for us. She is constantly working on some type of paper folding anyway, so a little prod in the right direction and she is off and running. We'll see how many she completes.
Also I was thinking that I could have my kids write messages of peace on the paper before it's folded ... just a thought.

GuestI have 4 students already done with their books and I'm assisting them with stitching them. I finished mine this week and I'm so excited to see the kids' finished products. They are starting to realize how excited the kids receiving their books will be to have a glimpse into their lives. One boy was upset today that he couldn't print his in color cause he thought they would enjoy it so much more if it were in color. One girl wishes she could be there to see a student read her book.
This is turning out to be a lot of fun and the kids are having great conversations about what they know about China and Japan and what they think it might be like to grow up there. This is helping me conceptualize my curriculum ideas as well.

GuestI don't think I will be able to have my students make books, but I will have cranes to donate. I will count them this week as soon as my students have finished them and post the number.
Also, I would love to contribute to bringing books, or find my own. It is hard to tell from the posts how many we have as a group. Could someone let me know if I should buy more?
I am also trying to get some items donated with my school logos. Is anyone bringing these items from their school?

SpectatorHi Folks,
I think school-branded items are quite popular. Many booster clubs can provide these free of charge. Promise to bring back a picture of C/J holding your school cap or shirt or bumper sticker or....June 12, 2006 at 1:02 am #22963Anonymous
GuestI am going to see if I can get any school logo stuff from my activities director.
I got both my books (Clay asked for 2 per person) from a used bookstore in mint condition. Total cost was $25. for two.June 12, 2006 at 1:04 am #22964Anonymous
GuestI am also bringing individual photos of some of my students to give to the C/J students. I have them put on the back, their name, school, year, and where they took the picture or what they were doing.

GuestBooks???
So do each of need to bring two books? From reading the thread, it seems that not everyone has to.

GuestI have accumulated 73 pencils, with our school logo (for the younger students?). 43 keychins, and 100 pins with our West logo. I also have many photos of my students, which I am bringing. I will share the "good" with Tracy. Will the number of items be enough? Will 216 split 2 ways be enough?

GuestDarlene,
I think what you've mentioned will be plenty according to what Clay told us during our meeting. You're so fortunate that your school has that stuff. My school doesn't even have pencil's with our logo.

GuestSame here Julie, my school doesn't have any neat stuff like that either. I am taking some photos and a couple of yearbooks but other than that, I can't really take anything related to my school.

GuestI don't know if it's too late, but could I also split the cost with someone for the coffee table book and I would be willing to share some of the weight--carrying the book also.
Thanks,

GuestHi. I wanted to let you know I have acquired 5 teddy bears, two lanyards, stickers, and a visor with my school logo.
I also have 54 cranes. I don't know if that helps us at all.
I will purchase two more coffee table books this week.

GuestIpurchased my coffee table type books.
I have a zillion Tilly's stickers and
Disney pencils galore.I also have local board shop stickers.
I think I could use stickers in lieu of wallpaper and fill
up all wall space in my second bathroom.June 25, 2006 at 3:13 am #22973Anonymous
GuestFor gifts, I purchased two books about Santa Cruz. They are not coffee table style, but seemed very interesting. My students also made cranes and I am bringing along those. I haven't counted them though, but there are around 100 or so.
To give to students, I am bringing old copies of Junior Scholastic magazine. I am also bringing photos of my students and me throughout the year. I may go by some surf stickers today if I have time.
After reading everyone's posts, it sounds as if we will have quite the collection of books. I am so excited! Dana
