For my world history courses, I use the Globe Trekker episodes on DVD.....my preferred format.

Using the format that the host is backpacking, which I think young people might find more accessible to their own means, the show goes more off the beaten track than just focusing on the tourist spots.

Episodes I have found useful are:
    Tokyo (newest)
South China (a few years old now)
East China (a few years old now)
    Vietnam (fairly recent)
    Indonesia (several parts, pre-Tsunami)

I previewed the DVD, and composed a Cornell Note-style sheet that will be used for graded discussion (usually left side notes). I forgot to say that all video experiences have similar handouts to complete.

I agree that Globe Trekker is a is a good show to present to students. I am constantly trying to get the students to understand that the places that we study in class are real places and not just in the textbook and that they are considered important not just by teachers but by millions of people who spend their hard earned vacations and money to travel to them. I am also always trying to get the students to realize that they too can travel to these places and backpacking is one way that might help them to afford it.
