Here the notes I took on today's discussion. This is set based on what I need in order to create my lesson. The notes I took are based on some of my personal focus (the ideas we brought by all group members):

Definitions We Should Create or Question:

    capitalism
    communism
    socialism
    democracy
    dictatorship

Historical Events We Will Need to Consider:

Creation of Modern Day Taiwan “Rupublic of China”
    Creation of Communism in China
    Modern Day China

What we need to do before:

Look at articles and states about:

    China’s consumerism
    Taiwan economy
    China’s economy
How China’s government has changed its opinion about the economy
    Expo Website
    Taiwan’s government website-economic
    World Bank Website

While we are East Asia we will look at:

Examples of consumerism-what ppl are wearing, shelfs, advertising, branding,
    Airline magazines and ads
    Taxi advertising
What buttons are the advertisers trying to push
    Leisure
What do people do on the weekends
    Government msging
    Taiwan’s economic growth
    Prices of things
    Expo stuff

    Extra thoughts:
    Open trade
    Hong Kong Free market
    Quality of Life
    Interviews

Before we jump to conclusions, consider this article from "The Atlantic." A very interesting look inside the world of business that shows us what Perception/Image play in the growing markets of China. I know this shouldn't be much of a surprise, especially when you look at how Hollywood portrays people of various ethnicities, but I was a bit shocked! =:O
