I found this website link to be useful because some of my colleagues and I will be taking some juniors to watch the film adaptation of The Great Gatsby, next week. I found the article interesting because it discusses the perspectives of Chinese students and the way they perceive the American novel. I liked the example of Daisy and her breakdown reaction when Jay shows her his shirts. This reference allows the readers to see the difference between the clothing and the freedoms that Americans have as opposed to Chinese. It also discusses the powers that attire has on appearance and identity in various cultures. This is a topic that is worth bringing up as a discussion prior to viewing the film.
