One of China's best -known monuments is the Great Wall. The wall was first built during the Qin Dynasty( 221-226B.C.) to keep invadors from coming into china from the north. Later , during the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1388-1644), a major reconstruction of the wall was done. The purpose of this newly renovated wall was also to keep out invaders. This is the wall that still exists today.
The Great Wall is not one continuous wall, but many different sections with some gaps in between. Some, but not all, of these gaps are filled by mountains and impassable terrain. The exact length of the wall is unknown, but it is estimated to be around 1,500 miles(2,400 km) long. Sections are about 25-30 feet ( 7.6-9.1 m) high and consist of the wall itself, guard stations, and watchtowers.
It can be seen from low altitudes in Earth's atmosphere, it is not possible to see it from the moon.
