GuestI have checked out some of the site listed; very informative.
Kaiser suggested hepatitis, tetanus, and typhoid. Anyone else check in with their shot/travel clinic?May 2, 2012 at 3:26 pm #22340Anonymous
GuestYes, I did! I got all three shots you mentioned from Kaiser. It was easy and painless!

GuestI'm trying to decide about Typhoid. Would we be in areas where that is a risk? I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.

GuestYes, let me know about typhus. My doctor didn't mention it, but did make sure I was up to date on hep and tetanus.

GuestDid anybody get a world health organization card for the back of your passport? I'm an old school traveler that would be the first thing I would get to document all of the Vaccination records. But I can't find anybody that does that anymore.

GuestI decided to get the Typhoid shot -- since we don't have an exact itinerary & will be likely to be modifying our plans as we go, I figured it was better to be safe than sorry. While I feel like I've been slugged in the arm, it's better than getting Typhoid.

GuestI see that rabies is rampant in China, so i guess we don't bend downt to pet any pet wandering by us.
Also, with the heat and humidity, i am concerned about mosquitoes and malaria, but it sounds as though urban is fine, and malaria medicine is prone to many bad illness and side effects, so good to avoid unless we are in a rural area where we will be exposed to infected squeeters.
see copy:
Areas of China with Malaria: Rural parts of Anhui, Guizhou, Hainan, Henan, Hubei, and Yunnan Provinces. Rare cases occur in other rural parts of the country <1,500 m (4,921 ft) May–December. None in urban areas. If you will be visiting an area of China with malaria, you will need to discuss with your doctor the best ways for you to avoid getting sick with malaria.May 15, 2012 at 4:55 am #22346Anonymous
GuestMy doctor gave me the pill form instead of the shot. Lke you, I was hesitant, but, better safe than sorry.

GuestI've recently purchased Lonely Planet China and when traveling I've always found Lonely Planet to be one of my favorite companions that informs me on almost anything and everything about the countries I visit. I highly recommend Lonely Planet for those of you who enjoy travel guides

GuestI almost expect someone to suggest getting a shot for bubonic plague next. I know it's better to be safe than sorry, but it's not like we're going to the newly discovered planet of Pandora (Avatar). Should I invest in a moon suit in case any Chinese people want to shake hands with me? Take a step back and listen to yourselves. If you're that concerned about health issues in China stay home near some convenient American hospital. I'm sure there were other people who weren't chosen to go who would be excited about the prospect of interacting with China and all of its splendors.

GuestStraylor: I think you're reading way too much into the health issue thread. Wondering if we're up to date on our vaccines or need an additional one is not remotely the same as being afraid to shake hands with people. After all, we're teachers -- we have students sneezing in our faces all day. The place I need a biohazard suit is at school.

GuestGreetings classmates, I recently visited China (Beijing, Chongqing & Wuhan) in June 2009 & June 2010 and had no health issues nor concerns. But I did have 2 shots before arriving @ LAX, one was Jose Cuervo & the other Don Julio 1941. We'll be fine! - RUDY
