Hi! I'm Roxana Salazar. I live in Silverlake and teach 10th and 12th grade English at Miguel Contreras Learning Complex. I also enjoy traveling, and I also wish that I could read more. I am now reading Obama's Audacity of Hope, but I've had to stop several times because of too much grading.

I'm am independent studies middle school teacher at City of Angels, LAUSD. I teach all subjects and like the exlectic nature of my job. Working one on one allows me to more deeply connect with my students and have a greater influence on their lives.

    Hey all

My name is Anna and I teach 11th and 12th grade English as well as Foreign Film at Narbonne High School in Harbor City (between Torrance and San Pedro - no one ever knows where the heck it is).

Like most schools, we have broken into small learning communities, and mine is called International Studies Academy (ISA - gotta have an acronymn), hence my 9th grade rotation class teaching foreign film. It's used as a vehicle to introduce freshman into the world outside of LA - it's amazing how little they know about it.

I've struggled to find a good Asian film to show my kids. Any suggestions? As of now I'm using "The Last Emperor," which is amazing but also English. Remeber they are freshman, and mostly boys thus extremley immature. I'm looking for something entertaining as well as something I can pass off as educational...

    Pleased to meetchya

I'm Ray Robinson, a former Brit and now all-American... well, still working on that last bit.

I've been with the District for 18 years - the first five teaching 5th and 6th at the Elementary level, the rest at the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies (go, Unicorns!) where I share a classroom with 6th, 7th honors, 10th, and various high school grades, all eager (they assure me) to learn as much as they can Social Studies-wise...

I've been lucky enough to visit China three times - Beijing and Jinzhou, a small post-industrial city to the north, and home to my lovely in-laws - and even luckier to have married a rather lovely Chinese lass (hence the Manchurian relatives), whose short-sighted enough to think I'm handsome... especially when I hide her specs. So, I tend to lean a little towards Chinese history and culture, though teaching a fairly significant Korean polulation at LACES has also pushed me to learn more of Korean culture and history (aside from the late-20th century stuff required of the curriculum standards).

Hobbies and pastimes? As I tell students, I'm one of those sad cases who reads history books in his spare time - apart from Asian history, I'm very interested in the evolution of warfare (especially the experience of the two World Wars of the twentieth century), modern European history, and the ancient Mediterranean world. Oh, and I collect toy soldiers, ancient and modern... I am a sad man, aren't I!

Hello, may name is Steve Waller,

I teach United States and World History at Narbonne High. My hobbies are numerous and I use many of them in my teaching. My passion ever since I can remember has been history(especially military history) as well as art. I like to draw and paint, especially about historical subjects and I use these to decorate tests whenever possible. I use artists chalks to draw colored pictures of people and things that I'm teaching about on the chalkboard. In addition, I also have a passion for books, antiquarian and new, and I'm constantly reading to enhance my knowledge of history. One hobby that I use extensively in teaching is my interest in and collecting of historical artifacts. I have also been very fortunate to have been able to travel to many of the places that I teach about. Checkout my website at http://www.geocities.com/historytraveler
