    Hi Folks,

Just a reminder -- if you'd like to submit a note for inclusion in our Freeman Memorial, we need to receive it by email by 1/15/2011. Here's the original email:

    Dear Colleague:

It has been some time since we shared a classroom. I write today with sad news. Houghton Freeman, head of the Freeman Foundation, passed away earlier this month. He and his family have supported our teaching program since 2002. Without their generous aid, we wouldn’t be able to offer seminars, workshops, and study tours. He lived a remarkable 89 years. His wife Doreen and his son Graeme have been involved with the Foundation and have also been enthusiastic backers of the teacher training program. You can read more about Mr. Freeman (and see pictures!) at: http://china.usc.edu.

I’m writing to you because you are among those who completed a Freeman-supported program. I want to invite you to contribute to a memorial book we’re compiling to honor Mr. Freeman. If you would like to write a note of appreciation, please do and please send it to [email protected]. If you’d prefer to use ordinary mail, you may send it to us at:

Please consider enclosing/attaching a photo of your students working on some Asia-related assignment or you introducing something about Asia to them. Mr. Freeman was always focused on trying to help you bring Asia alive for your students. That’s what mattered most to him. Please send your note (please keep it short and just one photo please) to us by January 15.

Thank you for reading this. I hope that the program you went through was useful to you and that your students know more about Asia as a result. We look forward to hearing from you.

Xin, Nallely, Linda, Venus, and all of us at the USC US-China Institute wish you the best possible 2011.

    Smiling,
    Clay
