If some of you are interested in having an Asian meal after the Jan. 14th meeting, all you have to do is cross the street from Sunrider (east of Sunrider, between Cabrillo and Western Avenues) and you'll find all kinds of eateries:
There is a Japanese market, too, called Mitsuwa (Me-tsu-wah). If you've never been to a Japanese market and enjoy seeing ethnic foods, check it out. Inside the building of the market, there are some small stands and shops (ceramic dishes/ware shop, Japanese video shop, Japanese bookstore, Japanese stationery store, bakery, Japanese confectionary stand, sushi stand (cash only)). Also inside the building is a food court with several vendors displaying plastic food (like in Japan) so you can see what you're getting. Many of the food vendors are not necessarily Japanese owned, but the food is fast, okay and reasonably priced. The building closes at 8 p.m.
On the other end of the block (along Carson Street) are many restaurants including:
-a Korean barbeque buffet style (maybe between $15 and $20 per person but all you can eat and quite a variety). For the meats, many of the Korean bbq meats are raw and marinated and you select what you want, then grill them at your table. Other dishes are cooked and in hot trays. As with other Korean bbq buffets, there are Japanese dishes, too, including sushi.
-a huge Chinese buffet-style restaurant. Lots of variety (reminds me of a Chinese Hometown Buffet). I think the prices are about the same as the Korean bbq mentioned above.
-smaller, more intimate restaurants, some authentic Japanese
Personally, I've frequented the Korean BBQ and Chinese buffet and the food court in the Mitsuwa building and enjoy them (esp since I don't have to cook). I can't speak for the other restaurants, but the area attracts many Japanese business men and locals for lunch and dinner, so I imagine they're good.
