China is supposed to be releasing the last Tiananmen Square prisoner in October this year. Miao Deshun is 51 years old. He was a worker from the Hebei Province. He was convicted of arson after he was said to have thrown a basket onto a burning tank. He was sentenced to death, but his time was commuted to life. He was given an 11 month reduction this year.
He has become extremely thin and other prisoners that spent time by him said, “He wouldn’t be able to walk under the weight of chains.” They also implied he had developed mental problems. He now has hepatitis B and Schizophrenia from his long imprisonment.
Tiananmen Square is still a very tense subject for China’s government and they don’t like to acknowledge it or talk about it.
