My name is Aileen Level, and I teach at Yavneh Academy in Hancock Park. It's a small religious school with a very tight-knit community. I teach all the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Social Studies classes. (Boys and girls are in separate classes.) I'm thrilled about going to China/Taiwan this summer. I was in China/Hong Kong in 2001, and there has been so much development since then that I am eager to see the changes. Being able to provide first-hand descriptions of the places we study enriches my curriculum and makes everything seem much more "real" to my students.

I can't wait to tell them that I was selected (we are currently still on Easter break). I am so looking forward to learning first-hand about China and sharing that info with my students and colleagues.

Hi, we are about to break for dinner and I just wanted to say how excited I am to be part of this study tour. I apologize for not being in attendance this morning, as I was flying back from a funeral in Oregon . I look forward to sharing and learning more online in this forum and especially on our trip.

    Greetings classmates,
My name is Rudy Meza and I am so excited and honored to be part of this exceptional study group. I spent 2 years teaching ancient civilization at Clinton Middle School in South Los Angeles, and I am now at Nightingale Middle School near Dodger Stadium. I recently traveled to China as part of a U.S. Delegation of 400 teachers, administrators and elected officials, sponsored by the College Board and Hanban. We visited middle and high schools as well as Peking University in Beijing. We also visited numerous historical sites and were invited guests for a special presentation at the Great Hall of the People. I encourage all of you to apply for this program called the U.S. Chinese Bridge Delegation found on the College Board web site. Please let me know if you have any questions or need assistance completing the application. My students have greatly benefited from this experience!

    Hello all!

My name is Benjamin De Leon and here is a little bit about me:

    • I currently teach Modern World History and Honors Modern World History at West Adams Preparatory High School in the Pico-Union area of Los Angeles (in between Koreatown and South Los Angeles). In the past, I have taught Government/Economics, U.S. History, and three electives: Business Management/Entrepreneurial Studies, Sociology, and Media Studies.
    • I am very excited about this study tour and feel honored to have been accepted. I have been fortunate enough to have traveled around Asia. A couple of years ago I traveled to Korea on a study trip through the Institute of International Education (IIE) and the Korea Foundation. When the program ended, I extended my stay in Asia for an extra week and half, hopping on over to Japan. This past summer I traveled to the Philippines and Thailand, and over the Thanksgiving recess, I traveled to Beijing for the very first time. Each of these trips and experiences have been utterly incredible and have added to my life - both personally and professionally - in so many ways. I hope to learn much on this trip and get to know the countries and their vivid histories intimately. Furthermore, I plan to bring back to my classroom all of the new information and knowledge gained.

It really is nice meeting you all... See you at the airport!!

    Cheers!
