GuestHello, I am a member of the Escondido Charter High School International Leadership team. My background and areas of teaching include journalism and layout and design for both print and multi media projects. I am excited for the opportunity to learn the history and culture of East Asia in order to pass on this knowledge to our students. My position on the team will be to help our students bridge the cultural gap as they communicate through both print and multi media. Through project based learning, the International Leadership students will demonstrate their ability to communicate effectively through understanding the cultural, political and economic dynamics, and social forces in East Asia.

GuestHi everyone. I'm afraid I'm playing catch-up because my Mac crashed the Wednesday before the seminar started. I have a new Mac Mini that I'm learning to maneuver around. Anyway, I am starting my 35th year of teaching, and I still love it! My first 12 years were spent teaching elementary school in South El Monte. After getting married and moving, the commute was too much (100-mile round trip), and I began teaching 6th grade in Moorpark when we used to teach multiple subjects in a team setting. Now we are very departmentalized, and I teach mostly history. Several years ago and two weeks before school started, I was told I would be teaching 7th grade history. I love the 7th grade curriculum, and it brought back memories of some of my favorite history classes at CSUN. I just finished my first week back to school, and I currently teach two 6th grade history classes, two 7th grade history classes, and one 6th grade p.e. Then Friday we all received an email from the principal that there could be major changes to some teachers' schedules and prep times due to leveling the class sizes. Ah, you've got to be flexible in this profession and keep smiling. I'm married to a high school p.e./life skills/softball coach in the San Fernando Valley. My older daughter attends Moorpark Community College, and my younger daughter is a senior at Simi Valley High School.

KeymasterHello everyone,
Welcome to the web discussion forum for the USCI Summer 2011 "East Asia from Origins to 1800" Residential seminar at USC!
This is a space in which we can all get acquainted prior to the seminar. To that end, it would be great if you can reply to this post and provide the following:
1. Your name
2. Your school and teaching assignment
3. A photo (if you so desire; see attached "Using the Web Forum Guide" for detailed instructions)
4. Anything else about yourself that you would like to shareWe will be posting information relevant to the seminar here, so please check in regularly. Also, for the ease and convenience of all forum users, please limit the number of new threads you create. If something can be shared, discussed or expanded upon under an existing thread, let's do so.
Thank you for your consideration, and welcome to the forum!
