I visited Pacific Asia Museum last week in Pasadena. This museum is set up in a very unique way: when one enters the door, the atrium court looks like a replica of a palace in China! The wooden beams on the ceiling makes it feel very "Asian." I really loved the Bonsai trees that surrounds the terrace as well. This museum displays severals rooms that represents several countries. One room that is distinctive is the Japanese one where pottery is displayed. The craftsmanship is superb--I noticed that Japanese art is designed with a lot of details that appeared like it took a long time to perfect. There were art pieces that were astonishing as well. One that I liked was of a geisha painted with a beautiful (colorful) traditional dress. In the next room, there are displays of Chinese artifacts. Again, there is a lot of pottery but the design if definitely different from the Japanese one. It seems like Japanese art is a little more minimalist than the Chinese art pieces. I believe Chinese art pieces are a little bit more decorative, usually coated with gold. Even though we didn't study about Thailand, but there are amazing Buddha statues here. Some with eight arms stretching far from their neck all the way down to the waist. The experience is completely fascinating because it is very different than seeing it from a book/picture. With this walk through, I was able to see the small details at a 360 degree of all the pottery/art pieces. I recommend everyone to go and visit this museum.
