My lessons contain three 90 minute days that cover the introduction of the warrior class, details about Samurai Culture and links to resources for modern day use of samurai culture. Students will be introduced to the Samurai class and will identify the relationship between the Samurai, Daimyo, and Shogun. Students will then learn about the various aspects of Samurai Culture including; physical and mental training, the tea ceremony, calligraphy and haiku, and Zen Buddhism. Students will then create a poster showing the ways in which these cultural aspects are still being used in Japan today. The lessons include detailed instructions for a close reading, a jigsaw, and researching and creating a poster. Materials include the readings, web links, and handouts needed for the three days.
