Applying for a vendetta had to be the most unusual practice of ancient Japanese culture that I've ever been taught. Throughout our present day educational system, we attempt to instruct students about the need for tolerance and acceptance of others. However during the age of warriors in Japan, the revenge practice was also a predetermined an ordered task as well as being readily accepted. It is not difficult to imagine what would happen if our present day society was given permission by the legal system to exercise individual judgment and punishment towards others, the end result would be chaotic. I wonder if this is why the Japanese ended this practice.
