I recently saw this film about the Dalai Lama. After visiting the Lama Temple in China, I was inspired and taught about showing some clips to my students. I plan to use this film to demonstrate the historical background of the Tibetan Monks. The real life story of Heinrich Harrer is an interesting one as he struggles to survive and return back home. I would use the film to explore the standard and concept of character transformation and the influence that the environment has on one. For example, both characters, the young Dalai Lama and Harrer use one another’s wisdom and help to learn about the inner self and how they want to pursue the rest of their lives. Both are survivors in different ways and I believe that this can be tied down to any story. I would also like to connect this to Chinese Cinderella and address the injustices that children experience in the world.
