Interesting article by Ian Johnson about the disputed islands in the East China Sea. Japan claimed them in the 19th century, but historically, they have belonged to the Chinese. The Chinese people have been protesting about this recently, with some of the protests turning violent. There is thought to be valuable natural energy off the coast of these islands. Good article.
