Great resource! Thanks for sharing! I recently signed up. Very easy to use and a great resource!
Thank you so much for posting this resource! I really appreciate how the articles can be read at different Lexiles, so it is appropriate to use this website at multiple grade levels. I also like how there is a mix of current events and history content. Thanks for the share!
A website that is useful for all teachers looking to increase literacy in their classroom is the website newsela. https://newsela.com/
This website has current event news articles made easily accessible to students, in that you can select which lexile you want to print the readings at. This makes differentiation with text a lot easier on teachers, and the students can access the readings at their appropriate reading level. This website publishes news articles every day and even sends you a daily email with the latest articles available. If an event happens, newsela is on it and has an article the next day ready for students to read directly on the site, or that you can print out and give to your students a physical pdf copy. This site is great to access current events in East Asia, in that you can easily type in the country or topic you want in the search button, and multiple articles will pop up. For example, I was able to pull an article from this site on the current China one child policy changes recently.
It is very simple to use, and creating an account is free. The daily emails they send are again informative for you as a teacher so that you know what articles are available to assign to students. And they have different lexile levels so you can reach your different reading subgroups in the classroom, while at the same time keeping students informed on world issues, especially those in East Asia. The different topics range from war and peace, science, money, law, health, arts and sports, so again this would give you access to any of these current event topics in East Asia.

Jennifer, you are right! This is a GREAT language arts resource. I use it for my 2nd graders. I'm not sure if you know, but you can also create reading comprehension tests online. I use this resource to start getting my 2nd grade students ready for the SBAC. This allows them to get experience in taking tests online and providing a written (typed) constructed response. Excellent resource!
