It's very interesting to read about propaganda in North Korea and makes complete sense that such propaganda exists and is so strongly apparent in such a nation. It seems really a key and integral part in maintaining an oppressed society spreading certain ideals that oppose natural human rights. Although a comedy, the film The Interview, captures satirically some of these ideas in North Korea. I particularly thought the seen of the facade grocery market was a great example of this. In fact, when I visited South Korea several years ago, a popular tourist spot is the 48th parallel where with telescopes one can see apartment buildings on the North Korea side. At a closer examination, one can see that the apartments are a facade, much like Universal studio building set in which no backing exists but 2x4s to hold up the front.

There is a very interesting article in the Los Angeles Times calendar section that tells about an epic production put on by the North Korean governemnt. It tells about the communist struggle in North Korea. It is supposed have 100, 000 cast members. It is complete with music, light show, and massive card turning sessions (kind of like the superbowl) that depicts grand scenes from the communist struggle. The pictures are pretty impressive. The production is called "Arirang" and has the sanction of leader Kim Jong Il. It is good to know that production and glitz is progressing in even in the so-called oppressed countries.
