The presentation reminded me of a report by TIME Magazine about Secreatary of State Hillary Clinton and a subsequent CNN commentary from Saturday, November 5, 2011. The writer of the article credits Secretary of State Clinton with using a different approach to diplomacy. Instead of the usually heavy-handed approach from some American politicians, past heads of state, lobbyists and partisan "big-wigs", she uses "Smart Power". Her use of NGOs with no government affiliations has led to some giving credit to Clinton for the satisfactory diplomatic resolutions of late instead of Obama. Clinton's visit to East Asia in early 2009 was largely well-received.
For example, the capture of Bin Laden and the toppling of Qaddafi's regime have been attributed to Clinton's initiatives behind the scenes instead of Obama's leadership. Former Vice President Dick Cheney alluded in one of many television interviews that Hillary Clinton would make a better president than Obama. It appears to be a foretelling of the wishes of some for the future democratic presidental candidate in 2016.
