I have been in touch with Kevin Ming, one of the fellows we met at City University of HK. He's involved with the new international school in Guangdong province. Manny has written to him as well. Kevin referred me to Michael Haley. Michael's eager to link his students with ours. Here's some of the information he's provided me:

Michael wants to have the students he supervises in the "Writing/Global Societies" program he oversees at the school. He wrote: "We'd be interested in arraying the dialogue/conversation around the topic of 'race,' but are certainly open to alternative ways of framing/organizing discussions, or to operating something closer to a traditional pen pal model."

If it were me, I'd want to take on other topics at the outset, in part so as to avoid getting immediately into a you/we divide right at the outset. I think that topics along the lines of gender and generation or consumption might generate lively discussion that would build a foundation for explorations of ethnicity and identity.

Please send me an email ([email protected]) if you'd like me to put you in touch with Michael. My guess is he won't be able to accommodate all who volunteer for reasons of time and age groups. Include info about the class you'd like to link to his.
