Principles of Warriors Reading

I utilized this short read in my class when studying Samurai's in our Medieval Japan unit. The students enjoyed reading and learning about the Bushido code and also how Samurai were expected to always look clean and presentable in public, not lounge around or appear lazy, and carry themselves in a way that exemplifies a genuine warrior. After reading this, we discussed reasons as to why these principles would be viewed as important. We also discussed why they would still be important today and ended the discussion by comparing samurai to knight in medieval Europe. In having read this, students became excited to learn more about the role of samurai in medieval Japan
