    Dear Colleagues,

Please see below for the readings on the Pacific War and the American occupation of Japan following World War II. The readings come in seven parts.

At first I was slightly confused because I was reading chapter 23 about “Modernizing Korea and Colonial Rule (1896-1945)” because I was reading many of the same idea that I read when we had the Saturday session on Korea, including Louise Yim’s female independent writings, yet this week’s topic is about Japan.

Then I realized the readings were setting the stage for Japan’s colonial rule and the three stages it went through. I can’t wait for tonight’s lecture and see how the things I have learned about China and Korea tie in with Japan. As a person who knew very little about Asia before the course, I am excited to see how all three countries and their histories are all coming together!
