As an Inclusion Specialist, I am constantly collaboration with History and English teachers. I really appreciate taking this class because it has given me the opportunity to access many passages and resources that can be incorporated in the classroom. I especially enjoyed the guest lectures. It was fascinating to here about their research and the resources that they shared with us were amazing. Previously I had very little knowledge about Asia and its culture. Taking this class has given me a broader insight to their culture, economy, geography, the arts, family dynamics, and economic system. I would love to continue learning more modern China current events as this can be applied to national relations. My favorite lecture was definitely by Mei Fong. It was so fascinating to hear her perspective and learn more about the one child policy. Her lecture further inspired me to create my curriculum project on Modern Chinese women and the ever-changing gender roles. A lot of the experiences women go though in Asia are similar to those in Mexico. I was able to draw many parallels between their values and my own. Making such a connection has allowed me to think about how I can bridge this connection for my student who are majority Latino. I hope to inspire my students with the materials and resources I received in this course. Lastly, the biggest take away I want my students to understand the impact of policies and its long-lasting consequences. Additionally, I want them to become agents of change and provide avenues for them to speak up.
