Reflection: Session 11 – Prof Dubey (May 12)
At this concluding day of the seminar, we were introduced to another vibrant Asian nation called Korea. We went into the details which include:
    * 1910: Japan annexes Korea, forces Koreans to adopt Japanese customs, traditions
    * Kim Il Sung, the benevolent North Korean leader, ‘assures’ that with the support of Stalin of USSR and Mao of China, that if he invades the South Korea, that will result in unified Korea.
    * Gen Mac Arthur wanted to wipe out Communism from Asia. He never slept in Korea, ran the War from Tokyo; he will fly in and out of Korea. He assures the President Truman, who flies into Wake Island because the Gen says he is too busy. When asked what about the Chinese, he’s told not to worry. The Chinese let the American soldiers go all the way into North Korea, encircle them and annihilate the American armed forces. As a result, Mao rides high and shows the world who the real leader of the Communist World is.
    * The real hero of the Korean War was Stalin of Russia, who did not lose a single soldier.
    * The Chinese are upset over the fact that nowhere in the North Korean museums or records the sacrifice of many Chinese soldiers is acknowledged.
    * Next year, 2013, will be the 60th anniversary of the Korean War, which officially never ended.

    DO YOU KNOW THAT:
    * M*A*S*H, is not about the Korean War (1950-53). It is about the Vietnam War, set here in Santa Monica mtns
    * Technically, the Korean War is not over because it is between North Korea and the UN.
