It just dawned on me just now that during our debate, the group that was able to effectively communicate their philosophy appeared to be stronger and more assertive. People usually determine what they believe is the right answer by evaluating the ability of others to persuade through speech and reasoning. So, I realized that no matter how great or virtuous many of these philosophers from the olden days were, it really depended on the person who was conveying the message. You may have a great product, but if you don't advertise effectively, you won't sell. A lot of people strongly opposed the Legalist views, however, the arguments of that team were so convincing that it was difficult to disagree (Yes, I'm biased. I was in that group =P). We can really relay this message by focusing on the power of an author's use of voice and the power of persuasion. Students can read about the 4 schools of thought and find evidence of effective voice. How could you (student) "sell" your school of thought. What would you have added or changed to the original teachers of the school of thought.
