Representations of Culture in Literature and Film

Here are some thoughts/wonderings on our curriculum project (according to what we came up with during the orientation weekend):

We could divide our study into time periods:
    - ancient - creation myths
    - imperial (Confucian)
    - cultural revolution (Red Scarf Girl)
    - modern (photos, cultural messages in children's books)

    Some film suggestions:
    - The Way Home
    - Eat Drink Man Woman
    - To Live

We had also mentioned focusing in on poetry, as well as looking for any iconic authors or pieces of literature in modern bookstores, schools, etc. However, after a brief discussion with Clay, we discovered that there is not really an Asian Twilight or Harry Potter counterpart.

I am just getting us started here . . . please feel free to add comments, questions, suggestions!

    Thanks!
    Stephanie
