The foot binding although cruel is what grabs my students' attention. Using the images of foot binding could be a great way to introduce history, gender roles, and culture to students. Thank so much for explaining the Opium War... now it makes sense to why the US became involved. I do not condone drugs or the use of drugs to fund an economy but why is the US acting all paranoid about the drug trade in Mexico, and in Afghanistan--this evil does bring in money like it did during the Opium War.
