The Middle Kingdom website link was sent to me as informational guide about Chinese culture. It cited, among other aspects of the Chinese culture, the ex-pats who come to China hoping to marry a Chinese women, but are often shocked to learn that many Chinese women do not fit the stereotype.
The author stated that marriages between Chinese-Japanese, Chinese-Canadian, and Chinese-non Chinese American (statistically) do not fare well due to outsiders cultural misunderstandings about Chinese women. In other words, some ex-pats are enamored by the fantasy of marrying a Chinese woman.
One Chinese American cultural director opined that some see Asia (and its women) as a construct onto which they project their fantasies.
The web site is not critical of Chinese women or Chinese people or their culture. Rather, it cautions non-Chinese foreigners against expecting to quickly meet and marry a Chinese women (and live happily ever after) if they go there to work or study. Moreover, it warns expats to travel, work, and live in China with their eyes wide open to an ever changing Chinese society.
