SpectatorHello Jingshuang! I am so glad you are in this seminar with me. I would love to talk to you about the education system in China, how you experienced it, and possibly how you liked it as a teacher? I would love to hear how you feel about the US, now that you lived here for several years, and how you describe it to your friends/family in China? I will reach out to you tomorrow and introduce myself. Looking forward to it!

SpectatorHello Zoey! I love your goal of helping students develop their own identity and nurturing this. It is very important for us teachers to foster this in children and celebrate their cultures and traditions, celebrate their differences as well as their similarities. I always encourage students to be proud of their heritage and I try to use this philosophy in my classroom at all times. We can all learn from each other's cultures and backgrounds!

SpectatorHi~ my name is Jane Shen, I am a 4th generation Korean who were born and grew up in China, now living in USA for 20 years.
I am teaching Mandarin in a LAUSD high school in Hollywood for 2 years. And prior to that, I had been running my own Chinese language school for almost 10 years.
I love everything that pleasant to ears, to eyes and ofcurse yummy staff which satisfy my mouth.
I love reading children's book with my 10 year old boy, hiking and watching movies.
I wish through this one week workshop, I would be able to make some friends with you .

SpectatorHello everyone my name is Stella Castro and I am a special education teacher. I have been teaching for 13 years. I love my job and what I do. I teach the moderate severe population. This is my 3rd seminar in teaching about Asia. I truly and thoroughly enjoyed the last 2 seminars, although I admit that the first seminar I found really hard. But I was a glutton for punishment, and so when the second seminar rolled around I wanted in, as I really learned many things from the first one, and like aforementioned I really enjoyed it, as difficult as I found it to be. I was secretly wishing and hoping that there would be more seminars on the teaching of Asia and bringing Asia into the classroom. Then one day as I was looking through their website lo and behold there it was. This time it was on the visual arts aspect, and I am an avid student/learner of the Arts, I love the Arts, and so here I am. I really thank USC and the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia, (NCTA), for making this seminar possible.

SpectatorHi Everyone,
My name is Nira Sun, a high school Mandarin teacher in LAUSD. This is my 4th year teaching Mandarin and 1st year teaching AP Chinese. I enjoyed my last experience with USC East Asia seminar, so I was super excited when I learned about this summer seminar. I have always wanted to integrate visual arts into my lessons because, in my opinion, visual arts are more effective stimulant for language learners. From my experience, they are also the most engaging materials and resources.
