It was a breath of fresh air when Professor Ye explained his methods of teaching about art in cinema, as well as art in literature. The art of interpretation is usually full of hermeneutics, yet, Yet prefers to focus on the erotics, which is the sensual aspect, of the art in any form.
I agree that many professors and/or critics can be lucretious about the hidden meanings behind works of art. I also agree that cinema should be considered an art form. As far as applying what I've learned in his lecture to my teaching, and as a music teacher, I can easily apply his method of critiquing cinema to critiquing music in the cinema.
