Guest"Top Ten Things to Know about Korea in the 21st Century” by Edward J. Shultz was brilliant, and Professor Kim’s latest slides of Korea added more vibrant meaning to it. It was quite astonishing to witness the globalization in terms of ethnic diversity in such a short period of time compare to its 5,000-year history of homogeneous society. Fascinating! Also, there are many reasons to celebrate “Miracle on the Han River” and give them a credit for their assiduousness, perseverance, and creativity.
Thank you for the book, Korea for Kids. It’s a perfect resource to teach children about Korea.

GuestI agree with rkim and the comment about “Top 10 Things to Know About Korea”. The short article was informative and did a nice job in introducing and dispelling myths about Korea. Having little knowledge about Korea, this reading was very enjoyable.

GuestSunday's biggest news of the day was the killing of Osama Bin Laden. While this was reason to celebrate for many, I just hope that this will finally bring an end to the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which have turned out to be the longest and most expensive wars for the U.S. However, last session with Professor Jung Kim actually made me realize how much we take our freedoms for granted in this part of the world and especially the damage that U.S. foreign policy and imperialism have caused around the world. It is heart breaking to learn that families in the Koreas continue to be divided by what is proven to be the longest war in world history. What grieves me the most; however, is the lack of information about this very fact, and more so by the fact that people minimize this by labeling a “conflict” as Professor Kim put it. I enjoyed personally learning about Korea not only because Professor Kim made it interesting by addressing issues I never heard about like the “Comfort women” or the value of the reciprocity in gift-giving, but also because up until now I had very little knowledge about this fascinating nation, which I hope to visit one day.

GuestThe article about "Top 10 Things to Know About Korea" could be used in a classroom when introducing Korea in to the curriculum. The students could do some group work and then have a full class discussion.
