What a great movie! One thing that was very apparent throughout the movie was family. In spite of everything that happened over the years, in the end they were together helping each other.

I researched sister cities for Canton, Mississippi - I thought it would be Canton in China but it was not. There is no sister city for Canton, Mississippi.

Bakersfield's sister cities in East Asia include; Wakayama in Japan, Cixi in People's Republic of China, and Bucheon in S. Korea.

For those of you who liked To Live and are interested in the subject matter, another pop culture reference (based on true stories) is Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China by Jung Chang. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as it goes through three generations of women in China.

In the early 1900s Japanese, Chinese and Filipinos were involved in agriculture in the Coachella Valley, and there are Chinese and Japanese Americans that are still involved in farming in Thermal. I had the daughters and sons of those families in my class.
