i have heard much conflicting info on such. when listening to clay our last day i was sad there was so little to discuss as much as their was to discuss. i have never been able to really tolerate one culture trying to erase another culture in its many disguises. no one country or people are entirely innocent. when asked in class about this genuine "sore" i find that an answer is complecated. i have not studied the two cultures in depth to really give a comfortable answer nor am i sure to recognise someone who is. china is not tibet, from what i have experenced through visits there on travels i get true distinctions between the two. so when i am asked what do i think about it from my class i just tell them i strongly disagree with any culture (including ours) taking, by force, over another culture, i do not care how long ago it happened, it feels, looks, and reads dead wrong. when i change the venue of the story to re-tell it no student, and i mean no student feel it to be right. so what do we teach? we do have the future in our classrooms.
