In 1942, the United States government ordered more that 110, 000 men, woman, and children to leave their homes and detained them in remote, military-style camps. One of those camps was called Manzanar. It was also called a War relocation center. Manzanar was just one of the ten camps where Japanese aliens were interned during World War Two.
This place has been esbablished as a National Historic site in 1992. Upon visiting Manzanar one will learn of the Owens Valley Paiut life, the Japanese homesteading era, and the fruit-growing community of Manzanar.
