GuestOn 23rd of May I am going to take all my students to visit Bowers Museum for the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibition opening on May 18. If I cannot take all of them to go to China, at least I can take them to taste a bit of Chinese culture here. If you have never been to Xian, China to see the marvelous Terra Cotta Warriors, you definitely don't want to miss this one. Although it's hard for you to imagine how huge the real pits of Terra Cotta Warriors could be from this small exhibition, at least after seeing it you will understand why and how Qin Shi Huangdi, the first emperor of China, built his thousands of tomb guardians while he was still alive. If you want to know details about this exhibition, please visit Bowers Museum's website: http://www.bowers.org/exhibits/exhibit_future.asp

GuestThere is another good place for you, your family, or your students to go. The Chinese garden, Garden of Flowing Fragrance, in Huntington Library is newly open to public. I have been there twice so far. It reminds me the gardens I saw when I traveled to Southern part of China.
True to the authentic nature of a Chinese garden, the design respects the site. When you walk into the garden, don't forget to take a look of the windows. Each window will open a different view of landscape for you. I read a news before saying that not only all materials including woods and thousands of tons of rocks were imported from China, but also architects as well as workers were hired from China to work on it. It's really worth to see it especially during this beautiful season when all flowers are blossom. I hope you will enjoy your day in this peaceful and beautiful garden. For details, you can go to visit its website:

GuestI recently saw an article in my AAA Westways magazine about 5 attractions worth the drive in Southern California. I was all excited that I would have something to add to the forum, but it's already here! Anyway, I am glad to hear such positive things about the Terra-Cotta Warriors exhibit at the Bower's Museum. It sounds like the article was right and it is definitely worth the drive. I will definitely try to check this out.

GuestBailey, April. "5 Worth the Drive." Westways 100.3 (May 2008): 63.
Each month AAA, Automobile Club members receive a monthly magazine titled, Westways. This publication not only covers topics such as travel, automotive, and lifestyle, but also includes an extensive calendar on events taking place around Southern California. This month the calendar highlights the exhibition "Terra-Cotta Warriors: Guardians of the First Emperor" at the Bowers Museum of Cultural Art in Santa Ana. From May 18-October 12 100 sets of artifacts will be on display, including approximately 20 complete terra-cotta figures and recently excavated sculptures of court officials, acrobats, generals, and bronze birds. This is a great opportunity for all of us since this museum is so close. Maybe some of us will purchase additional terra-cotta warriors. Memories from Spring 2007.

GuestThank you for this TaiwaneseFest-LA culture event. I will give students extra credit to go to this event. Students will learn a lot from this culture event. I am glad that Taiwanese government put efforts to publicize the beautify of Taiwan. Taiwan was called Formosa which means beautiful island.

GuestThe Bower's Museum in Santa Ana is holding an exhibition on the Terra Cotta Warriors. It is the largest collection of soldiers yet to "go on tour". It will be May 18-Oct 12. Looks like an interesting museum as well.
