I was surprised today to hear on NPR that South Koreans are protesting against importing beef from the U.S. because they fear mad-cow disease. Last weekend, I grilled steaks for the holiday weekend and they were delicious, lean and juicy. Should we be afraid too? It is very difficult to establish a balance of trade in a global economy, particularly between developing and developed countries. Who decides what to trade, what is fair? We are importing many electronic products and automobiles from South Korea, so what do we have that they want? Nothing? Sound familiar…like China and Britain…déjà vu.

From what I hear on KCRW they percieve our chicken to be an issue as well. Apparantly they have some problem with the carcasses being left in a pile of their own offal then being dipped in chlorine for sterilization. Jeeze whats their problem huh 😐

...in case you missed it, that was sarcasm you heard dripping back there.

I think the larger issue is not that South Korea doesn't trust our Beef or Chicken, but how they are assembling in protest against their government and making their voices heard. It is really a testament to the power of a democracy when the people embrace it and are actively involved in the political process and social issues.

With all the issues that have presented themselves in the last few months, it is no wonder that people/countries are weary of trusting out products.

I'm not surprised that Koreans are protesting U S beef. Rembering how cows were treated in slaughter houses not too long ago caused me to stop buying and eating beef. On top of that, I make sure the chicken I purchase is organic. Call me paranoid, but I'm even considering giving up meat all together because I just don't know what goes on doing the processing of it all.

We would not have known that sick cows were being raised with fork lifts just to get them into the slaughter houses for us to purchase cook and serve to our families unless someone had caught it on tape. Imagine how much goes on with our meat that we do not know about.

Becoming a vegetarian does not sound so bad.

Vegetarians also face the E-coli concern. It is a 'mad' world out there.
Hey is for horses.....or can human find any use? Hmmm? LOL

Seriously, there are many concerns with the processing of food, especially when your government makes it a priority to set regulations. Do you decide where your food comes from before eating it?
