If you are considering getting vaccinated, schedule an appointment now, as they're filling up!
You will probably need to schedule two appointments, the first for a consultation, and the second for vaccinations. Also, for the greatest effectiveness, it's recommended that the vaccines are administered a month before departure...which is ASAP for us.
I talked with Monique Vaillancourt, NP at the Ashe Center today. She handles recommendations for vaccines, and medications to take for the trip. If not dropping by the Ashe center, the number to schedule appointments is 310-825-4073; if you search online you may not find something for 2 weeks.
I already have had my tetanus in the past 10 years, chicken pox, and 2 MMR shots, but had to take vaccines for Hepatitis A and Typhoid. This costed about $125.
Monique also prescribed Malarone for resistance against Malaria in case I went on a rural excursion. This costed $30. I was also given Ciprofloxacin for traveler's diarrhea. This was significantly cheaper, at about $3.
All of these prices are for those with SHIP. Also the types of vaccinations and medications may change depending on your travel plans; I intend travel only in China with a possible rural excursion. The amount of spending for this trip is definitely starting to add up. If you need more information, Monique recommended http://www.MDtravelhealth.com in addition to the CDC website.
Best of health,
Jennifer
