The CNN story "The Girl in the Picture" is horrific on so many levels. As a father to a daughter, a teacher, a human we see this level of suffering and it makes our heart sink and feel almost hopelessness for the world we live in. I was only a year old when this photo was taken, warm and safe in my parent's arms. I can't say when it was that I first saw this image, and how gruesome it was. But really, how could I relate to it? Now I can better appreciate what it means, and this article, with an interview of the girl, now a mother of her own, is a kind of closure for me. To see how people move on but never forget. How they use the pain to make the world a better place. I don't know if I can say her life is inspiring, but it certainly does give me hope.
